Since Mark's Birthday and our Anniversary fall on the 28th we decided to head out of town and visit a part of our state two of the three of us hadn't been to yet. So we hopped into Mark's convertible and spent the past few days driving up the coast from Tillamook, Oregon to Long Beach, Washington where we've been playing tourists~ enjoying beautiful towns and incredible weather, late night sunsets, warm sand between our toes and meeting some kind locals along the way :) Hope you are seeing some new sites this summer as well..
I 'm heading out of town (to finally get my new printer) but wanted to pop in and share this video I found on Etsy about Japanese Automata and artist Hideki Higashino..exquisite isn't it? And thank you to all who bid, and created shrines, and helped make this year's OSCG Shrine of Hope a success!
Azucena is a bride that I created as part of the Art Dolls Only Etsy Team Challenge Each month our group holds challenge with a certain theme and May's happened to be "Dolls of Yore". Azucera's dress is in various shades of ivory and honey and in the short style (with a train) that was made popular by Chanel during the 1920's (I included a black sash as a nod to the designer). Her head dress is made of dyed tulle and vintage ribbon. I sewed tiny glass beads and sequins all over the head dress as well her sleeves, the ribbon over her sheer lace bodice and over her skirt. Her dress is made of various silks, ribbon, tulle and lace (new and vintage). Azucena's slippers are my first "attempt" at silk shoes. Her orange blossom headdress is made of floral stamens (painted) and the flowers in her bouquet I made of watercolor paper and each is hand painted. They are coated with ultra fine glitter and tiny glass beads. Her necklace is made of freshwater pearls and her hair is made of black English Viscose. She sits at approx. 12" tall (she would be approx 17" if she were able to stand.) and should be propped up on a chair or shelf securely and away from direct sunlight.

I will return this weekend with a New Doll. I know, that really should be plural but I'm working on it. For those asking about shop updates, the best way to be notified of when I have more dolls available is to join my mailing list at dubuhdudesigns@gmail.com. Since several of you have been asking about dolls for upcoming birthdays, graduations, etc. I will make an exception and put the new doll in my shop probably this weekend instead of holding onto her for the next update.
Lastly, I found this interesting..
While on my way to pick up my son from preschool yesterday I happened to catch a tiny bit of a discussion on NPR'Ss Talk of the Nation regarding the positive effects of music on the brain, specifically how studies have shown that certain music appears to help patients who live with dementia, vertigo, autism, the aftermath of a stroke, etc. (you can read about it here). A listener called in and mentioned that his son was encouraged to listen to the music of a French singer as part of his therapy but could not recall her name. Last night while blog hopping I serendipitously came across the video above by a woman named Nolwenn Leroy. After hitting the replay button for the tenth time I decided to google information on her and discovered that her music was part of a study about the healing effects of music. How patients upon hearing her music (and that of Mozart) were able to function better with notable results and that this phenomena has been coined the "Nolwenn Effect"..no doubt this was the singer the caller was referring to. Anyhow, she has been singing for some time and is well known in Europe but this was the first time I had heard of her. Though I am not fond of "pop" music per say I think she has a lovely voice and had to share this :)
With a busy home life these days, I am only able to create dolls (and blog!)when I get the chance. The best way to find out when I'll have more dolls available is to be added to my mailing list.To be notified of when the next
