I am a doll artist originally from Pacific Grove, CA (on the Monterey Peninsula), now living in Bend, Oregon. My background is in Fine Art, Sculpture, Printmaking, etc.. and I earned a BA in Art (emphasis in Photography) and AA in Graphic Design.
Du Buh Du Designs began after the birth of my son a few years years ago. The name (pronounced Doo buh Doo) was a term of endearment for him when he was just a newborn. I added the name on the back of his birth announcements that I designed and decided to keep the name for my business.
I enjoyed dolls as a child but didn't give them much thought until the day I came across a show featuring an artist by the name of Dame Darcy back in 2005 demonstrating how to make simple clay dolls. I was inspired by her primitive yet modern dolls and attempted my first ones using the same simple jointed type doll that she demonstrated. I love the idea of a doll as an art form in and of itself; of using one of the oldest toys/forms known to man and using it as another way to express ideas and emotions through. My work is continually evolving and I'm eager to see what direction my dolls will go next~
